Description: A three-hour training covering the basic principles of play therapy as related to 1) the effectiveness of play therapy, 2) the therapeutic powers of play, 3) the difference between directive and non-directive play therapy. Objectives: Play therapists will verbalize an understanding of how and why play therapy is effective in order to be able to promote an understanding of play therapy to their clients and their communities. Play therapists will discuss the therapeutic powers of play in the context of example play therapy sessions within breakout groups. Play therapists will list the differences between directive and non-directive play therapy including their definition, ideal populations for use, and theories that focus on each type.

    Robyn Reyna is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor ™ in Houston, Texas. She is also certified in AutPlay® and is working on a certification in Synergetic Play Therapy as of 2024. She is the founder of Calming Communities Counseling & Wellness, PLLC, an affirming family therapy agency focused on connecting parents, teachers, and kids with a deeper understanding of the neuroscience behind mental health to help our community raise confident, capable, and connected children. Robyn has been providing play therapy for ten years and play therapy trainings for more than seven years, and has presented locally, nationally, and internationally. Robyn’s trainings focus on Adlerian play therapy, neuroaffirming play therapy, and neuroscience-based parenting strategies. Finally, Robyn is a published author of several children’s books focused on child mental health and social navigation topics. She has also published in APT’s Play Today Magazine, several scientific journals, Dr. Grant’s Play Interventions for Neurodivergent Children and Adolescents and Liana Lowenstein’s Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents, and Families.

All refund requests must be made in writing within 15 days of the purchase, and no less than 14 days before the date of the course. Every effort will be made to achieve resolution, including, but not limited to: refund of fees, substitution of course purchased, credit provided for future course. 

Grievance Policy

Calming Communities, PLLC is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists, and the National Board of Certified Counselors Code of Ethics. APT will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be responsibility of the CEO and Program Reviewer, Robyn D Reyna.

While Calming Communities, PLLC goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, it recognizes that complaints do and will arise. Calming Communities, PLLC will do its best to anticipate problems and, when they do present themselves, will attempt to alleviate complaints as quickly as possible.

Grievance Policy

When a complaint, either verbally or written, is filed with Program Reviewer, the following guidelines are followed with respect to achieving resolution:

1. Complaints relative to a speaker or workshop leader, contents of instructional materials being presented, or an individual educational style being utilized, the individual voicing disapproval is requested to first address concerns to the presenter. If the presenter is not available, place his/her comments in writing. Program Reviewer will convey these comments to the speaker while maintaining confidentiality of the complainant.

2. If the complaint concerns a continuing education activity, its content, level of presentation, or facilities in which the event is being held, the Program Reviewer will attempt to resolve the matter as expeditiously as possible. If the offered resolution (resolutions may include, but not be limited to partial/full refund of fees paid; credit toward future event) not satisfactory to the individual filing the complaint, then further action may be taken. In the latter instance, the individual is requested to place his/her complaint in writing to the attention of the Robyn Reyna. The complaint is then reviewed by the Program Reviewer. A written response will be issued within 30 days of receipt of the written complaint. Within 30 days of the resolution rendered by the Program Reviewer, the complainant may file a written appeal to the Program Reviewer. The decision of the Program Reviewer is final.
