Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy: From Case Conceptualization to Play-Based Change

CE Hours 3

About this course

Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy (CBPT) integrates the principles and interventions of cognitive behavioral therapy with developmentally appropriate play-based methods for working with children. Participants will receive a brief introduction to the history and foundational principles of CBT and CBPT, with an emphasis on applying the model throughout the stages of treatment. Participants will learn to assess presenting concerns and target behaviors, develop a cognitive-behavioral case conceptualization and measurable treatment plan, and select play-based cognitive and behavioral interventions based on treatment goals and the child’s developmental needs. The training will emphasize practical application of CBPT interventions across assessment, preparation for active therapy, active change, generalization, relapse prevention, and termination. 1. Participants will be able to identify the foundational principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and describe how these principles are developmentally adapted through Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy. 2. Participants will be able to develop a cognitive-behavioral case conceptualization and treatment plan using identified target behaviors, baseline data, cognitive and behavioral maintenance factors, and measurable treatment goals. 3. Participants will be able to identify and apply developmentally appropriate play-based cognitive and behavioral interventions across the stages of Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy.
